Their Stories
Kecia Strock
As a first-generation student I had no idea how to attend a university. A few years ago, I was assisted and encouraged to apply for college through the Complete Tampa Bay program. I applied to USF and UF, and was accepted. I ultimately decided on UF, and along the way Complete Tampa Bay continued to answer my questions and offer encouragement.
Saturday, August 9, I graduated from UF with a Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology! I am so proud of the work I have done and so grateful to have been given the opportunity to have help through LEAP and Complete Tampa Bay. The encouragement and guidance from the program was invaluable! I am graduating cum laude with a 3.98 GPA, which is something I had only dreamed of being able to accomplish.
“Thank you for the program, the guidance, and the encouragement to enroll in a university and complete my degree!”
Allen Chen
As someone from an immigrant family, I understand the importance of access to education and technology in shaping opportunities for others. I started my academic journey at Hillsborough Community College (HCC) and used FUSE to help transfer to USF, and purse a degree in Information Technology. My goal is to pursue a career in Information Technology, specifically in the education field, where I can help bridge gaps and empower communities like mine. I live by the belief that “education and technology are the keys to opening doors of opportunity for all walks of life.” Through the LEAP Tampa Bay FUSE Scholarship, I’ve been able to focus on my studies and work toward a future where I can make a meaningful impact through education and technology.
“The FUSE Scholarship, as it has not only allowed me to invest in my education but also empowered me to give back to my community.”

Lourdes: A Story of Resilience
A compelling reminder that academic commitment can open doors to essential support for higher education.
Lourdes faced challenges at Hillsborough Community College, leading her to drop out and lose Financial Aid eligibility due to her SAP status. With LEAP and the Complete Tampa Bay program’s support, she returned with determination. Excelling with all As, she’s now on track to graduate in Summer 2023. Her story illustrates the crucial link between academic excellence and FAFSA eligibility. Her turnaround emphasizes the importance of maintaining grades for personal achievement and unlocking financial opportunities through FAFSA.
Tansheka’s Story
Tansheka is currently attending St. Petersburg College. She was born and raised in St. Petersburg and has been a lifelong resident. She has 3 children and is the caregiver for her father. She credits the financial assistance and coaching services from Complete Tampa Bay with helping keep her motivated to know that she can finish her degree. She is expected to graduate Summer 2023 from SPC with her Associate of Arts degree.
