Local Veterans Assistance and Affairs

Tampa Bay is rich with specialized services for our military veterans, providing education, career, and community resources designed to support a successful transition to civilian life while honoring their service and contributions.

Using Military Benefits

The GI Bill, officially known as the  Servicemen’s Readjustment Act,  is a US law that provides educational and other benefits to veterans and their families. It has been updated several times since its initial passage in 1944, most notably with the Montgomery GI Billand the Post-9/11 GI Bill. These benefits can be used for a variety of educational and training opportunities, including college, vocational training, and apprenticeships. The GI Bill provides financial assistance for tuition, fees, books, and supplies.

Many local colleges and universities have programs devoted to helping veteran students succeed in earning their degree. When touring schools, be sure to visit the veterans’ services office to find out about amenities, facilities and programs the school may offer to veterans.
