Hillsborough Teacher Dr. Dre Graham Wins the 2020 Florida Teacher of the Year

King High School music teacher, Dr. Dakeyan “Dre” Graham was announced as the 2020 Florida Teacher of the Year at a gala event in Orlando last week. Dr. Graham accepted the honor in front of a packed crowd including Superintendent Jeff Eakins, School Board members, fellow King High School educators and Dr. Graham’s family and friends.

Dr. Graham has served as the Director of Instrumental Studies at King High School for the past 10 years. Before he taught at King High School, he was a student there and a member of the school’s Marching Lions band.

Dr. Graham holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s in Music Education from the University of Florida. He received his PhD in Music Education from the University of South Florida.

He will serve for one year as the Christa McAuliffe Ambassador for Education, touring the state to promote education and highlight exceptional teachers.

In January, Dr. Graham was selected as Hillsborough County’s Teacher of the Year. Dr. Graham is the 2nd educator from Hillsborough County Public Schools to be chosen as Florida’s Teacher of the Year in the last five years.
